As a program under the Centre for Race and Culture, the Mosquers is a video contest encouraging Muslims (and Non-Muslims alike) to “grab a camera and send a message” about Muslims or Islam in Canada. For the last 3 years, The Mosquers has been very successful in addressing stereotypes and misconceptions about Islam to the media and general public. By encouraging individuals to use the artistic medium of film/video, young Muslims have been given the opportunity to entertain, educate and decrease stereotypes & misconceptions about Islam in a creative and effective way.
The Mosquers Video Contest aims to:

  1. Decrease commonly held misconceptions about Muslims and Islam by using the creative tool of film.
  2. Dignify Muslims and promote understanding.

The Mosquers Awards Night showcases finalist entries where a judging panel determines winners for each category (i.e. Drama, Comedy, Social Consciousness). Cash prizes and a Mosquers Trophy are awarded to winners.
Organized by an energetic and committed group of young Muslim volunteers with strong support by the Centre for Race and Culture (CRC) and the Edmonton Council of Muslim Communities (ECMC), the Mosquers is now an annual event!
